The Product Development team at SOUNDBOKS is the group responsible for the exciting product journey, taking every step of the development process toward and into mass production. They are there to make a difference - for the products, the team and the SOUNDBOKS customers as a whole.

As the Lead Firmware Engineer, you’ll be leading the firmware development activities across SOUNDBOKS products throughout the product development stages. You’ll collaborate closely with teams across the Product Development department, assuring delivery of product firmware with it’s touch points all the way from electronic architecture to app, manufacturing and test areas.

Okay, let’s make things a little more concrete. Here’s what we expect your daily life to look like:

  • Lead the firmware development and architecture across our existing and future product portfolio

  • Architect and develop modular embedded software on top of real-time operating systems (FreeRTOS, Zephyr)

  • Investigate and explore new firmware-related technologies

  • Work primarily with Bluetooth (BT Classic, BLE, Auracast), and explore other wireless technologies for audio streaming in consumer products

  • Evaluate new SoCs, tools, and environments for system-level platforms (MCU, wireless radios, DSP, peripherals)

Collaboration

  • Work across internal and external teams covering hardware, app, and manufacturing test

  • Support development of test tools and systems

Job requirements

In order to become a success in this role, we believe that your profile should be aligned with the bullets listed below. However, we acknowledge that success can take many forms, so please do apply even if you don’t tick all the boxes.

  • You’re an expert in C, and you’ve worked with tools like Git, Make, CMake, Docker, and the GCC toolchain

  • You’ve worked with embedded systems, including RTOS (preferably FreeRTOS or Zephyr), and you’re comfortable debugging on real hardware

  • You bring relevant education or similar hands-on experience, 5+ years working with firmware or embedded software (ideally in consumer audio or something close)

  • You’ve built actual products before, ideally in consumer electronics, and you have a general feel for audio concepts and terminology

  • It’s a plus if you’ve worked with CI/CD, Bluetooth on embedded devices, or languages like Rust and C++

  • You’re self-driven - hence can and enjoy work independently, but also work well with others across different engineering disciplines and enjoy collaborating toward shared goals

  • You’re comfortable sharing what you know and learning from others

  • You can communicate clearly, no matter if in a discussion or when presenting ideas

  • You’re okay working in environments where things aren’t always fully defined, and can still move things forward

Intrigued? At SOUNDBOKS you’ll find yourself a part of a community. We realize that growth is a process and we don’t expect you to go through it alone. Actually, we guarantee that you won’t have to. We work together in order to work smarter, we inspire each other to be better, and we never forget that every member of the team is responsible for our success.

So, if you’re tired of all of the noise in the job market, we’d love to hear from you. This may be the coolest job you ever have!
